Hypertensive Emergency is a result of a hypertensive urgency. It is the very high increasing of blood pressure, which demands its immediate reduce to prevent organ damage. Help should be given at hospital.

Hypertensive Emergency leads to such organ damage as: 

* Changes in mental status: confusion or coma (encephalopathy).
* Bleeding into the brain (stroke).
* Heart damage.
* Chest pain (angina).
* Fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema).
* Heart attack.
* Aneurysm (Bulging blood vessel).
* Eclampsia (is observed during pregnancy).

Hypertensive emergency is observed when hypertension is not treated or the use of medicines is missed.

The symptoms of Hypertensive Emergency are: 

* Headache
* Seizure
* Pain in the chest
* Shortness of breath
* Swelling or edema (the accumulation of fluid in the tissues)

To diagnose Hypertensive Emergency you should measure blood pressure regularly, exam your eyes to make sure that they are not swollen or blooded and test your blood and urine. The doctor may ask you, what medications and herbal or dietary supplements you take.
