* Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
It was proved that the supplement CoQ10 lessens high blood pressure. After 12 weeks of experiment conducted on 83 people with systolic hypertension it was proved the intake of 60 CoQ10 mg twice every day have reduced systolic blood pressure of 17.8 mm Hg. Another experiment was conducted on 74 people with type 2 diabetes.
They take 100mg CoQ10 twice daily and 200mg of the drug fenfibrate for 12 weeks. 12 weeks afterwards the significant increase of systolic and diastolic blood pressure was observed. (systolic blood pressure’s reduction was 6.1 mm Hg and diastolic one was 2.9 mm Hg).
* Garlic
It was observed that garlic lessens systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Garlic powder supplement can be effectively used by people with mild hypertension. It should be kept in mind that garlic supplement can only be taken under the control of a doctor.
Garlic has a similar ability with aspirin, it thins the blood (lessens the ability of blood to clot). It can be used together with other "blood-thinners" drugs such as Coumadin (warfarin) or Trental (pentoxifylline), aspirin, vitamin E, gingko. It was proved that 71% of 79 patients with type 2 diabetes who take either 1200 mg of hawthorn extract a day or placebo for 16 weeks observed that their high blood pressure had been reduced. 16 weeks afterwards patients who take the hawthorn supplement observed that diastolic blood pressure was reduced. * Fish oil
It was proved that fish oil have a good effect on high blood pressure reducing it.
* Folic acid
Folic acid has folate (a B vitamin) which is useful for formation of red blood cells. It has an ability to reduce high blood pressure.
Diet is very effective when there is a necessity to lower high blood pressure. For the purpose the DASH "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension" diet is recommended.
The DASH diet includes such products as fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy foods, beans and nuts. Sodium should be reduced to 2,400 mg per day.
